EU has censured the capital punishment of Iranian wrestler "Navid Afkari"

Navid Afkari was put to death on Saturday, despite a high profile international campaign that called for his death sentence not to be carried out.

Afkari was on Saturday executed according to IRNA (Iranian news Agency) cnn reports 


 Navid was put to death on Saturday at a prison in Shiraz Iran. The wrestler was condemned to death over the killing of Iranian government water and sewage Department’s agent "Hassan Turkman" during the august 2018 protest in shiraz 


 Local reports said Navid was put to death after the victims family “Hassan turkman" refuse to forgive him and allow him to pay for his restitution 


 EU spokesperson today said in statement "Human rights remain a central feature of our engagement with Iran condemning the killing as a “cruel and inhumane punishment” 


“ We will continue to engage with Iranian authorities on this issue including through the local EU representation in Tehran and also individual cases such as the recent execution. 


The EU is opposed to the death penalty under all circumstances and cases with no exception. It is cruel and inhumane punishment which falls to as as deterrent and represents an unacceptable denial of hand dignity and integrity ".


Navid's lawyer Hassan Younesi told CNN that donors had gone to the city of Shiraz and were trying to raise money to pay the restitution, but it was too late -- the Shiraz judiciary informed Afkari's family the sentence was already carried out and they didn't get to say goodbye.

Higher institutions in kano state to resume October 26th

As so many higher institutions within the country have resumed back to normal activities, kano state higher institutions are yet to resume Yesterday, Dr Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure kano state commissioner of higher education declared in a statement as she briefed  journalist in kano state ministry of education headquarters about the resumption of higher institutions in the state. Bunkure said that, the state government has slated 26th October 2020 as the resumption date for higher institutions in the state.  She added, saying, institutions in the state have prepared well based on the reports from officials assinged to go round and check how far institutions have gone with preparation of the complete return of students  The state government has urged the institutions to provide hand sanitizer and face masks to ensure compliance to COVID-19 protocols.
